Hard work, mind change and persistance
By Isaac Hiire
Any athlete who has won a medal relates with these words every day of their lives.
A whole lot of discomfort, self isolation, unique dieting, training, repeated workouts and extra additions.
However it is even harder when one had to change from one race to another especially due to hurting judgements by the very people he or show works for.
This is a story of total heroism. After being denied from her favourite race the 800m Burudian Francine Niyonsaba has turned the pages in her favour. After hard training in kenya to build the endurance and speed needed for the 5000m, Francine has gone on to beat world class athletes like Hellen Obiri. Not once but twice. She has showcased a very strong character and a very strong kick in her final 200m.
It is easy to transition from 100m to 200m or from 200m to 400m. But think about it, to let go of the 800m which tome by all means is still a sprint race and go to the 5000m. A total adjustment to the slow twitch and fast twitch muscles.
Persistence and mind change are very key in this decision making. Giving up would have been an easier option especially with the stigma coming with the case. But she stood her ground and has won the diamond league.
The mind of an athlete needs to be trained to adopt to radical change with carefully guidance from coaches. True honour must be given to Francine Niyonsaba and christine Mboma the Namibian.
Persist, work hard and keep ur mind open to change. The body adopts to what the mind allows.
