What has it taken for Uganda to become one of the running powers in long distance running?

For many years Uganda only featured in events but never actually shined.  Until emergency of the likes of inzikuru, boniface kiprop, kipsiro, kiprotich, Cheptegei, kiplimo and in the earlier years, kamoga.

All this indicates that the talent was always there but never developed.

Many years before we were born Akibua sturned the whole world and for those of you who have moved outside uganda, you will testify that people mention that name.

What should we say then? Is it laziness or a lack of motivation that athletes more talented than these legends have failed to shine.

Pictorial evidence shows akibua training using crude methods like car tires while world champions used established training programed.

He came as unknown dark horse.

 Recently peruth Chemutai won gold. Pictures emerged of her training on a tarmack road. .......imagine all the possibilities of accidents, injuries, laughter from people. Yet she pressed on.

There is no shortcut to running success. It is hard work, patiance and consistence.

A lack of these kills hope of a medal.

Many athletes are quick to ask for support yet in running, it begins with you. The results of good running time indicate the hard hours of training.

Let's make this correction, Uganda is not only talented in long distance running. It is rich in sprint and middle distance. Northern Uganda, west Nile mbale, Buganda and western Uganda all have great talent.

I conclusion, it is time all athletes take it upon themselves to start working hard and do good. There is no shortcut. Run good time, sponsors will come.
